Book Description

Indonesia has around 350 species of snakes (10% of the world's snakes), and 77 of them are venomous. From this venomous snakes, 20 species are sea snakes. The rest of 57 species are venomous snakes on land. However, the number of snakes that can live on land, only 30 species can cause death or disability.

Based on publication from the Journal PLOS Neglected Tropical Diseases in 2022, the most cases of venomous snakes bites happened in Java Island, with 135,000 cases/year. Which causes death, or disability and amputation

Most people don't know how to differentiate between venomous and non-venomous snakes, and since many cases of snake bites result in sudden death, people tend to think that all snakes are venomous and should be killed.

There are only a few books about snakes in Indonesia and are usually written by researchers with a scientific approach. The most popular books written by Dr. Jatna Supriatna in 1981, "Indonesian Venomous Snakes", has never been updated until now.

On the other story, Indonesian people interest have been increasing rapidly to keep snakes as pets, including the venomous snakes.

A photographic guide to identify snakes species in Indonesia, has never been around before. It is urgently required to have a practical and easy guide to understand by using snake photography.
